The Chevrolet Equinox is one of the most successful crossover SUVs in automotive history. Our manufacturing partner completely redesigned the Equinox, offering a bolder style without sacrificing usability, performance or efficiency. A comparison between the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox vs. 2025 Ford Escape lays out a few reasons why this segment has become so closely matched. Both SUVs offer nearly identical physical dimensions. Design

Passenger Space

Providing a comfortable passenger experience is what put models like the current Equinox and Escape on the map. Both SUVs offer two rows of seats, holding up to five passengers safely and comfortably. The 2025 Equinox makes up to 1,039 mm of legroom available for the front passengers and as much as 1,013 mm for those in the back seat. Escape owners will have very similar dimensions.

Cargo Volume

Interior flexibility is a key element to the success or failure of any SUV. The current Equinox and Escape models are among the class leaders. When the rear of the Chevrolet SUV is being used for passengers, there is 844 litres of cargo volume. Folding that seat down opens the cargo bay up to 1,798 litres. The Ford Escape does offer a little bit more cargo room, but the difference is only a few litres.

Performance

Engine Output

Every 2025 Equinox uses the same powertrain, a turbocharged 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine attached to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It will make 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque to deliver athletic performance. The Ford Escape has similar powertrain setup at the base trim, making similar amounts of power.

Fuel Economy

Since the Equinox and Escape have similar powertrains, they also have similar fuel economy scores. The 2025 Equinox can post 10.0 L/100 km in the city and 8.2 L/100 km on the highway. Ford Escape owners will get slightly better fuel economy, but only by about a point on each side of the equation.

Technology

Connected Experience

Both SUVs have smartphone-compatible infotainment systems that can use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly. However, Equinox owners can also choose to get a subscription to Google Built-In that will give them wider access to Google apps. This feature isn’t available in the current Ford Escape model.

Safety

Chevrolet and Ford have independently developed their own safety systems to protect drivers and passengers in their respective vehicles. The 2025 Equinox is equipped with this comprehensive suite that includes:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist w/ Lane Departure Warning
  • Forward Collision Alert
